So, by coincidence, one of my friends reminded me today about a poem I actually wrote in ten minutes during class last year. The funny thing is that it was about the main character of Woman in the Dunes. Anyway, I hope you guys like the treat.
Niki
Junpei,
I
swear I saw you once
In
a visage of a man composited only by shadows.
The
sand.
Tell
me. Does Niki still exist?
Does
he still seek mastery over the universe
When
he tries to soften the inclines of dune fortress walls,
Or
has every particle become its own cubicle
As
grains of desert kin divide his cells by cells?
Tell
me. Does the Entomologist still search for his beetle?
It
is alright if he has stopped.
I
mean, infinity is just a void
For
those who smash tombstones and raid catacombs.
You
are not satisfied by golden shells
And
the imagined admiration when they
See
a species christened
For
you.
Face
it.
You
wanted humanity to have your name.
Tell
me.
If
you are to be buried,
Can
I have your funeral?
For
you see, I am modern;
I
have never owned a man.
But,
I
want to.
